This percentage is particularly high in cases of serious diagnoses, low language comprehension, or old age. As a result, unnecessary costs are incurred and treatment outcomes worsen. Ditto, a Rotterdam-based startup, has developed a free app that translates complex medical information into plain language, which can be easily shared with family and friends.
