We are here to answer all your questions in person if you can't find it in our FAQ's.

We're on Whatsapp!

  • 📤 Why allow WhatsApp for sharing, isn't it unsafe?
WhatsApp isn’t ideal for sensitive information. We prefer secure alternatives like Signal. We're also building a safe sharing option directly within Ditto, which will be the best solution going forward.
  • 📞 Can I record a phone call with my doctor?
At the moment, it's unfortunately not possible to record phone calls directly using Ditto. This is due to a technical limitation: when you're on a phone call, your phone’s microphone is already in use, so Ditto can't access it at the same time. We understand this is a popular request and are actively exploring a solution. We'll keep you posted!
  • 🔐 Can I use the app without a PIN code?
For your safety, Ditto requires your device to have some form of security: a PIN, fingerprint, or facial recognition. This helps protect your medical data if your device is ever lost or stolen. A temporary workaround is to enable security on your device while using Ditto. You can disable it again afterwards if needed. In the future, we aim to relax this requirement but will clearly explain the risks involved.
  • 📎 Can I upload files for the document scanner?
Not yet, but we’re working hard to make this possible! We know many people now only receive documents digitally and don’t want to print them first. For now, you can take a photo of your screen, but we know that’s not ideal. If you're on our mailing list, you'll be notified when this feature becomes available.
  • 🌍 How can I change the language of my app on Android?
We understand this can be frustrating. On Android, Ditto currently follows your phone’s system language. If your phone is set to English, you can't (yet) use Ditto in Dutch. Good news: we’re working on an update to allow in-app language selection. Our developers expect this to be ready within a week for most recent Android devices.
  •  💬 How can I ask my healthcare provider for consent?
Bringing up the idea of recording your appointment can feel a little awkward—but many doctors understand the value and even encourage it. At the start of your consultation, you might say: “I’d like to fully focus on our conversation instead of writing things down.” “I want to make sure I don’t miss or forget anything important.” “I’d like to share what we discussed with my family afterward.” Then you could ask: “Would it be okay if I record our conversation with my Ditto app? It creates a private, clear summary afterward—just for me. I won't share the recording with anyone.” This frames your request in a respectful and thoughtful way—highlighting how Ditto supports your understanding without interfering with their care.
  • 📱 Can I use Ditto on multiple devices at the same time, like a tablet and phone?
Not yet. Because Ditto puts your privacy first, your health information stays safely stored on your own device—and never in the cloud. That’s why using Ditto on multiple devices at the same time isn’t possible today. So if you use Ditto on your phone and record a conversation, it won’t automatically show up on your tablet. We're working on solutions that keep things just as private, but allow for more flexibility. Stay tuned, we know how helpful this will be.
  • 💬 Can I share the Ditto summaries with others?
Yes, you can share a summary directly from within Ditto—via WhatsApp, Signal, email, and more. The audio recording is for personal use only and should not be shared. We're currently working on shared accounts to make it even easier to share information with your loved ones.
  • ✅ Am I allowed to record a conversation with the doctor?
Yes, in the Netherlands, you are legally allowed to record these conversations without approval for private use. However, we do think it is common courtesy to always ask whether the person in front of you is okay with you recording. The recording is only for private use and you are not allowed to share this without the healthcare professional's consent. See also the Dutch government statement on this.
  • 🎙️ How can I upload an existing recording?
Ditto is mainly built for recordings made with the app, but here’s how to add your own: On the home screen, tap "Add" Name your appointment (e.g. “Hospital check-up”) and optionally add a date or location Tap "Save appointment" Then tap the "+" next to "Add file" and locate your recording Depending on your device, it may take a few steps to find the file. We recommend first saving the file from your other app to a known location.
  • 🔑 Is there an option to change my password?
Yes, though it requires a few steps: Go to Settings Tap the three dots next to your profile Choose Log out — your data remains in the app Tap Log in again Choose Forgot password? to reset it Note: if you signed up via Apple or Google, your password is managed by those services and can’t be changed in Ditto. No data is shared with them in that case.
  • 🗑️ Can I delete a recorded conversation?
Yes, but you can only delete a conversation by deleting the entire appointment. This will also delete the summary. Want to keep the summary? Make sure to share it first by email, WhatsApp, Signal, or even by sending it to yourself. Good to know: The recording is stored only on your device. No one else, including us, has access.
  • ⚠️ I can't create a summary, what’s going wrong?
That’s frustrating, here are a few possible causes: Not a medical conversation: Ditto is trained for patient–healthcare professional conversations. Others (like dental visits) may be filtered out. Low audio quality: If your phone was in your bag or connected to earphones, the audio might be too poor. Sensitive topics: Our AI is extra cautious with topics like sexuality or violence. Sometimes it's overly strict — we're improving this.
  • 🛡️ How can I set my Ditto pincode during the onboarding?
The PIN code is the same one you normally use to unlock your phone. So it’s not a new code, just the one you always use for your phone. You can also unlock Ditto with your fingerprint or face recognition, if you have those enabled on your phone.
  • Where does Ditto store my data?
On your own phone. This data is encrypted via your phone's built-in encryption and biometric security, to keep it extra safe.
  • Do you train your models based on my data?
No, we don't include your personal data in our training data. In this test version, by default we do store a copy of AI generations (document or recording) for optimization purposes. You can request removal of this data at support@ditto.care.
  • Which technologies do you use to process my data?
Ditto mostly runs on Microsoft's Azure platform, which is the most trusted cloud provider in healthcare for its excellent security. We use various foundational AI models, tuned and optimized to deliver reliable explanations for Ditto users.
  • How does Ditto make summaries of my recording?
With AI. We process audio on certified Dutch servers (from Juvoly) and then create an understandable summary. After that, we directly delete all your data from our systems.
