WhatsApp isnât ideal for sensitive information. We prefer secure alternatives like Signal. We're also building a safe sharing option directly within Ditto, which will be the best solution going forward.
At the moment, it's unfortunately not possible to record phone calls directly using Ditto. This is due to a technical limitation: when you're on a phone call, your phoneâs microphone is already in use, so Ditto can't access it at the same time.
We understand this is a popular request and are actively exploring a solution. We'll keep you posted!
First, please check if youâre using the latest version of Ditto. You can do this by visiting the App Store or Google Play Store and searching for âDitto.â
If an update is available, youâll see an Update button, tap it to install the newest version.
To make sure you always have the latest version, you can turn on automatic updates:
On iPhone:
- Go to Settings â Apps â App Store â enable App Updates.
On Android:
- Open the Google Play Store app â tap your profile picture (top right) â Settings â Network preferences â Auto-update apps.
If you still experience problems or notice something missing, you might have found a bug. Please send us an email or a WhatsApp message describing exactly whatâs happening, weâll be happy to help you!
For your safety, Ditto requires your device to have some form of security: a PIN, fingerprint, or facial recognition. This helps protect your medical data if your device is ever lost or stolen.
A temporary workaround is to enable security on your device while using Ditto. You can disable it again afterwards if needed. In the future, we aim to relax this requirement but will clearly explain the risks involved.
Yes! We have recently updated our app where you can now add a document in three ways:
⢠Scan with your camera
⢠Choose a picture from your gallery
⢠Upload a PDF file from your phone
Make sure to download the latest version of Ditto via the App Store of Google Play.
We understand this can be frustrating. On Android, Ditto currently follows your phoneâs system language. If your phone is set to English, you can't (yet) use Ditto in Dutch.
Good news: weâre working on an update to allow in-app language selection. Our developers expect this to be ready within a week for most recent Android devices.
Bringing up the idea of recording your appointment can feel a little awkwardâbut many doctors understand the value and even encourage it.
At the start of your consultation, you might say:
⢠âIâd like to fully focus on our conversation instead of writing things down.â
⢠âI want to make sure I donât miss or forget anything important.â
⢠âIâd like to share what we discussed with my family afterward.â
Then you could ask:
âWould it be okay if I record our conversation with my Ditto app? It creates a private, clear summary afterwardâjust for me. I won't share the recording with anyone.â
This frames your request in a respectful and thoughtful wayâhighlighting how Ditto supports your understanding without interfering with their care.
Not yet. Because Ditto puts your privacy first, your health information stays safely stored on your own deviceâand never in the cloud. Thatâs why using Ditto on multiple devices at the same time isnât possible today.
So if you use Ditto on your phone and record a conversation, it wonât automatically show up on your tablet.
We're working on solutions that keep things just as private, but allow for more flexibility. Stay tuned, we know how helpful this will be.
Yes, you can share a summary directly from within Dittoâvia WhatsApp, Signal, email, and more. The audio recording is for personal use only and should not be shared. We're currently working on shared accounts to make it even easier to share information with your loved ones.
Yes, in the Netherlands, you are legally allowed to record these conversations without approval for private use. However, we do think it is common courtesy to always ask whether the person in front of you is okay with you recording. The recording is only for private use and you are not allowed to share this without the healthcare professional's consent.

Ditto is mainly built for recordings made with the app, but hereâs how to add your own:
1. On the home screen, tap "Add"
2. Name your appointment (e.g. âHospital check-upâ) and optionally add a date or location
3. Tap "Save appointment"
4. Then tap the "+" next to "Add file" and locate your recording
Depending on your device, it may take a few steps to find the file. We recommend first saving the file from your other app to a known location.
Yes, though it requires a few steps:
1. Go to Settings
2. Tap the three dots next to your profile
3. Choose Log out â your data remains in the app
4. Tap Log in again
5. Choose Forgot password? to reset it
Note: if you signed up via Apple or Google, your password is managed by those services and canât be changed in Ditto. No data is shared with them in that case.
Yes, but you can only delete a conversation by deleting the entire appointment. This will also delete the summary.
Want to keep the summary?
Make sure to share it first by email, WhatsApp, Signal, or even by sending it to yourself.
Good to know:
The recording is stored only on your device. No one else, including us, has access.
Thatâs frustrating, here are a few possible causes:
⢠Not a medical conversation: Ditto is trained for patientâhealthcare professional conversations. Others (like dental visits) may be filtered out.
⢠Low audio quality: If your phone was in your bag or connected to earphones, the audio might be too poor.
⢠Sensitive topics: Our AI is extra cautious with topics like sexuality or violence. Sometimes it's overly strict â we're improving this.
The PIN code is the same one you normally use to unlock your phone. So itâs not a new code, just the one you always use for your phone. You can also unlock Ditto with your fingerprint or face recognition, if you have those enabled on your phone.
The maximum recording duration is 90 minutes per recording. This ensures reliable performance and secure processing of your medical conversation.
